When that crisp, invigorating breeze fills the air, there’s an irresistible pull to seek out vast, sweeping landscapes.

I recently took a short getaway to Chuncheon, a city wrapped in the serene embrace of blue Lake Uiamho. Floating gracefully over the shimmering ripples on the Lake Cable Car all the way to the Skywalk Observatory touching the clouds—the breathtaking panorama unfolding beneath my feet refreshed me to my very core. Let me gently guide you through my journey in Chuncheon.

Departing from the Samcheon-dong Lower Station, crossing the tranquil waters of Lake Uiamho, and stretching all the way to the Samaksan Mountain Upper Station, the Chuncheon Samaksan Mountain Lake Cable Car is South Korea’s longest cable car route, spanning an impressive 3.61 kilometers. It stands as Chuncheon’s signature landmark, easily accessible within 1 to 1.5 hours via train from major hub stations in Seoul like Myeongdong or Seoul Station.

While stunning in any season, it is especially magical on clear autumn days with pristine visibility, or during sunset when the glowing red light dances on the rippling surface of Lake Uiamho.

📸 My Personal Travel Experience

I visited the Chuncheon Samaksan Mountain Lake Cable Car and its observatory in early September. It was right at the cusp of early autumn-the air felt incredibly crisp, and feather-like white clouds drifted across a brilliant blue sky, making it an extraordinarily beautiful day.

Inside the cabin, which glided effortlessly across the water upon leaving the station, I enjoyed a peaceful view looking down at the lake. Crossing Lake Uiamho brought a quiet mix of tranquility and stillness, as the calm water acted as a mirror, reflecting the blue sky and soft, fluffy clouds in a spellbinding scene.

Once across the lake, the cable car began its steep climb up the mountain. Unlike the horizontal glide across the water, ascending the sloped mountainside unveiled a whole new, dynamic dimension of scenery.

Upon reaching the upper station, I walked along the wooden boardwalk path and finally arrived at the Skywalk Observatory. Thanks to the crystal-clear air, the deep greens of the mountain and the vibrant blues of the sky stood out in vivid contrast. Standing by the observatory railing, Lake Uiamho, the distant city, and the endless waves of surrounding mountain ranges opened up seamlessly before my eyes.

With such a high sky and pristine visibility, the contours of Lake Uiamho's waterways and islands appeared as sharp and clear as an unfolded map. That completely unobstructed, open view was an endlessly refreshing experience for the soul.
